About Us Welcome to Kids Care Clubs, a program of Points of Light & Hands On Network. Our mission is to develop compassion and to inspire a spirit of volunteering in elementary and middle school age youth. Kids Care Clubs knows that it is important to encourage children to volunteer at an early age. Kids Care Clubs provides young people with hands-on volunteer opportunities to help others in their local and global communities. About Kids Care Clubs In 1990, Debbie Spaide and a group of children got together to rake a lawn for an elderly neighbor in New Canaan, CT. A few weeks later, the same kids made 150 bag lunches for a soup kitchen. During these experiences they learned how great it feels to help others. They told their friends and in just a few weeks the group had grown to over 50 enthusiastic young people. That was the beginning of Kids Care Clubs. Kids Care Clubs are groups of young people who work together to help others in their communities and around the world. Clubs are formed in schools, churches, synagogues, Volunteer Centers, and other community-based organizations. Today there are more than 1,400 registered clubs and 75,000 kids in the United States and countries including Australia, Canada, China, and Nepal. Each month, Kids Care Clubs posts different service projects, which include step-by-step instructions, compassion and issues education, meeting activities, additional resources and information on possible service partners. In addition, Clubs can download a Start Up Handbook, will receive a monthly e-newsletter and a subscription to Young Heroes magazine, and are eligible for in-kind product donations and mini- grants. About Points of Light & Hands On Network Points of Light & Hands On Network inspires and mobilizes people to become engaged, take action and solve community problems. We cultivate a dynamic network of linked civic hubs, corporate partners, nonprofits, and citizen leaders to engage volunteers in meaningful community change. We are building a change movement—achieving scale and impact by inspiring a culture of service and offering practical tools, new ideas and innovation to the civic space. About the Quaker and Kids Care Clubs Partnership Kids Care Clubs is excited to welcome Quaker as our premier partner. Quaker will play an important role in helping us to build awareness and develop additional resources so that we can continue to develop compassion in young children and inspire them to take action and make a difference in their communities.

The name of the program is called KEY Cares. KEY is participating in Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale, an exciting and fun campaign to help fight childhood hunger in America. Today, there are more than 12 million children at risk of hunger in America. By participating in our Bake Sale, we can help end childhood hunger together. The proceeds we raise at our Bake Sale will directly benefit childhood hunger programs in our region. Here are the details about our Great American Bake Sale: Piggly Wiggly in Westwego has approved for KEY to have a bake sale on May 10, 2008 from 10-4. We need your support to reach our fundraising goal of $200.00. Would you consider coming to our bake sale or donating online? You may also donate to KEY and we will include this in our proceeds for this cause. RAISED $100.00 KEY looks forward to seeing you! This is sponsored by the Student Council of KEY and 4-H.
.... Additional reminders.... Any or All KEY members can donate to the following Group Service Projects if they choose to. Our 4-H Group will be teaming up with Student Council, RAK Club, and Kids Care on several projects in the future. In March, our 4-H Club planned a Service Project to collect items for the Jefferson Parish SPCA. We invited our Group and the homeschool community to donate towels or blankets ( bath size or beach towels and any size blankets -no sleeping bags, no electric blankets, and no open weave/crochet throws - for animal safety reasons)... these were to bring to the Marrero location SPCA. The project was a success. We collected four large, overflowing boxes of towels! The Animal Shelter workers were so grateful that we decided to keep this as an ongoing project. We were told by the SPCA workers that they could use more towels and blankets. In addition, they are also in need of plastic grocery bags, newspapers, and empty-single serve-water bottles (they fill the bottles with tap water and freeze them for the dogs to have cool water in t he hot months). Any KEY Members who would like to donate items are welcome. In April, our 4-H Club planned to work on a Service Project to collect items for a Program called "Operation Care". In this project, we collected items for Several Local Military Personnel who are serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. In addition, these Military individuals needed small toys and clothing for refugee children and adults in the areas that they were serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. We donated about 12 boxes of clothing and toys to this drive! We brought the boxes to a local Church that is coordinating the shipping. This will also be an ongoing Service Project by our KEY Student Clubs. Any members who plan to do spring cleaning of small toys (nothing electric or battery operated) & clothing that children/adults have outgrown can let any 4-H or Student Council Board member know they have items and we will take it from there. In May, KEY Students are planning a Bake Sale Service Project that is an exciting and fun campaign to help fight childhood hunger in America. On Saturday, May 10, we will host the Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale in front of Piggly Wiggly in Westwego. The proceeds we raise at our Bake Sale will directly benefit childhood hunger programs in our region. All KEY Members are invited to donate baked goods to this sale. Also, we would love members to come out and support the students by purchasing sweets! Remember May 11th is Mothers Day! You can buy Mom a Treat from our Bake Sale!!
